Introduction to Infoworks ICM 2D
This training course aims to introduce InfoWorks ICM users to 2D modelling techniques. The attendee will be introduced to converting existing 1D models to coupled 1D/2D models, in addition to creating 2D models from scratch. The use of external data for 2D mesh building will be explored as well as the use of 1D structures to link 2D Zones. Interpretation of results and diagnostics will also be investigated.
This is a 2-day computer hands-on training course.
Participants are guided through a series of practicals by computer hands-on training interspersed with Powerpoint presentations.
This course is designed for existing users of Infoworks ICM. Some familiarity with GIS or Microsoft Office programs would be advantageous although not essential. Understanding of river systems and catchment processes would also be helpful although not a requirement.
- Introduction to Infoworks ICM 2D
An introduction to the basics of Infoworks ICM 2D will be provided together with how to import the ground model required to use the 2D capability of Infoworks ICM .
The concept of a 2D mesh will be introduced together with the importance of mesh resolution. The 2D boundary conditions will also be introduced.
The 2D run parameters will be described together with the simulation diagnostics. The various methods of presenting 2D results will be identified and the 2D results analysis tools will be explained.
A coupled 1D-2D river model will be created to give the attendee an understaning of the linkage between he river channel and it’s floodplain. This will be expanded to add an urban drainage network which spills onto the 2D domain.
- Direct Rainfall modelling
The attendee will be provided with an understanding of direct rainfall modelling and the approach which can be used within Infoworks ICM.
The advanced mesh editing tools will be introduced which allow the user to add breaklines, voids, porous lines to add detail to the mesh and improve the schematisation of the model domain.
